Sheila Kelly

Social Enterprise Services (SES)

Sheila is a freelance consultant and former co-operative and social enterprise Business Advisor, with a track record of strategic work nationally, and with local communities, on social enterprise and economic regeneration.
Most recently her work has focussed on social enterprise national occupational standards and professional training tools for social enterprise advisors and managers, evaluation of healthy living projects, research into intermediate labour market costs, replication of a London Social Firm and, with Mutual Advantage, development of a new Department of Health pilot project on direct payments and home care services.

Sheila has taken an active part in supporting and contributing to the development of the social firms sector over the past ten years and is currently on the Board of two Social Firms in London: firstly, Lambeth Accord, which provides managed workspace and conference and training facilities to the third sector; and secondly, Café Ciao, which runs Café Nova Interchange at the Elephant & Castle Shopping Centre in London SE1.

Sheila says: “I was delighted to be invited to become a Star Social Firm Assessor and meet others in the sector to discuss good practice and share our specialist knowledge, skills and experience. Raising standards within the sector is crucial if Social Firms, and social enterprise, are to become recognised as part of the mainstream business community. The Star Social Firm quality standard, which is the first quality standard in the social enterprise sector, will raise standards and demonstrate both the quality of Social Firms and the sector’s commitment to continuous improvement.
